ONE LAST AFTERNOON IS PART OF A TRILOGY

Celebrating the essence of storytelling, the trilogy begins with One Last Afternoon, followed by the gripping narrative of The Most Feared Skin, and culminates in the emotional journey of Family Album. These films immerse audiences in the vivid tapestry of the present, capturing the essence of the here and now, while delicately unraveling the echoes of past conflicts steeped in violence and polarization. Through compelling and nuanced character portrayals, each installment invites viewers to explore the intricate layers of human experience, igniting a profound connection with the universal themes of resilience, redemption, and the enduring power of hope.

“One Last Afternoon transcends its time and place: These characters could be survivors of any formerly violent political group, anywhere. What is actually just a lengthy conversation becomes an intriguing exploration of the crushing effects of political engagement on personal lives.”

SYNOPSIS
THE BEST OF THE BOURGEOISIE ARE ITS WINE AN ITS WOMEN

Laura and Ramón formed part of that multitude of militant youths of the Latin-American left, which, almost two decades ago, took up arms. At that time, Laura was an attractive young woman from the Limean upper middle class who went to live to Cusco to find herself. But, she ended up finding Ramón, a provincial university student and “Free Country” militant, who like many others, left it all for the revolution. Their encounter was incendiary: just two weeks after meeting, they moved in together, struck by love and desire, but also by the dreams and uneasiness of a revolution that they imagined to be possible. Three years later, they separated. From their separation, they did not see each other again neither as lovers nor as militants.

Now, 17 years later, they meet very early in the morning in a court in Lima to sign their divorce. Ramón has become so alone as a result and returns to Cusco the next day. The divorce proceedings have concluded, but an unexpected formality forces to the spend afternoon together. To pass the time, Laura invites him for a walk. Ramón works in a financial company that provides micro-credits and has two children, although he does not live with them. Laura works in an advertising agency, does not have any children and lives with a filmmaker. While they wander throughout the city, they begin to rediscover each other by chatting humorously and ironically (although not always) about how time has changed their lives, their dreams and everything that they once believed in. But that it is not the only thing that they will discover because every casual word or fearful circumstance takes them back to the past, with its burden of unconfessed veils, grudges and secrets. At times, so much bareness is dangerous and Laura and Ramón will find that out in one last afternoon.
